The Junior Accountant supports the daily execution of the company's accounting and tax operations, ensuring the accurate recording of transactions, document compliance, and adherence to reporting deadlines. Working under the guidance and mentorship of senior accounting staff, this role plays an essential part in supporting month-end and year-end closing procedures, while maintaining the integrity of the administrative and accounting archives.
What you will do?
- Ledger Management & Journal Entries:
- Execute accounting journal entries for invoices (accounts payable/receivable) and expense documents, ensuring compliance with local SNC (Portuguese GAAP).
- Review invoices against tax and VAT Code requirements to ensure full compliance.
- Reconciliations & Sub-ledger Reviews:
- Perform bank reconciliations and ensure proper matching of financial movements.
- Carry out third-party sub-ledger reviews and reconciliations (vendors, customers, and other partners).
- Support the preparation of schedules and reconciliation maps required for financial closures.
- Closing & Reporting Support:
- Provide direct operational support to Manager/Senior Accountant(s) during month-end, quarterly, and year-end close procedures.
- Assist in data gathering and preparing supporting documentation for financial statements and audit processes.
- Administrative Tasks & Archiving:
- Ensure the proper organization, digitalization, and chronological archiving of all bookkeeping and financial documents.
- Handle other administrative duties inherent to the smooth operation of the finance department.
What are we looking for?
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent (ongoing or completed).
- Experience: Entry-level (0 to 2 years) of experience in accounting or an internship in the field. Experience within real estate development, construction, or hospitality sectors is a plus.
- Technical Skills:
- Basic knowledge of Portuguese Accounting Standards (SNC/NCRF).
- Foundational practical knowledge of VAT, Corporate Income Tax (IRC), and withholding taxes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and schedules.
- Systems: Familiarity or ability to quickly learn ERP/accounting platforms (such as Primavera/Cegid, Sage X3, or SAP).
- Soft Skills: High attention to detail, strong team spirit, organizational skills, and a proactive attitude.
