JOB SUMMARY

The community Education Adjunct Instructor provides instruction for non-credit Community Education courses offered by Klamath Community College. The instructor is responsible for preparing and delivering instruction in the assigned subject area, supporting a positive and inclusive learning environment, maintaining required course records, and communicating effectively with students and College staff. Course topics may include personal enrichment, professional development, workforce skills, hobbies, arts and crafts, technology, health and wellness, or other community education offerings based on community interest and College needs. This is a temporary, part-time adjunct position. Course assignments, instructional hours, schedules, and length of assignment will vary based on course offerings, enrollment, departmental needs, and instructor availability. There is no guarantee of a minimum number of courses, instructional hours, or continued assignment. The Community Education Adjunct Instructor is expected to maintain professional standards in instruction, communication, record keeping, confidentiality, and conduct and to follow Klamath Community College policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.


 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and/or utilize course content, instructional materials, and learning activities appropriate to the assigned community education course. 
  • Prepare, distribute, and utilize instructional support materials, including course outlines, handouts, presentations, demonstrations, media, equipment, and other resources as appropriate to the course.
  • Provide instruction in the assigned subject matter in a classroom, laboratory, online, community, outdoor, or other appropriate learning environment.
  • Deliver instruction in a manner that is organized, engaging, accessible, and appropriate for the intended student population.
  • Clearly communicate course expectations, objectives, schedules, materials, and other relevant information to students.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and course participation records as required by the Community Education Department.
  • Monitor student participation and progress and provide appropriate feedback and support.
  • Adapt instructional methods and activities as appropriate to accommodate different levels of experience, learning needs, and abilities.
  • Establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Use College classrooms, facilities, equipment, technology, and instructional materials responsibly and in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintain the security and appropriate use of College property, instructional materials, equipment, and facilities.
  • Communicate promptly and professionally with students, supervisors, Community Education staff, and other College personnel.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student, employee, institutional, and other sensitive information as appropriate to the position.
  • Follow applicable privacy and confidentiality requirements, including Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) requirements when applicable.
  • Follow Klamath Community College policies, procedures, safety practices, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Attend required orientation, training, meetings, or other activities related to assigned instructional responsibilities.
  • Represent Klamath Community College and the Community Education Department in a professional manner when interacting with students, community members, businesses, public agencies, and other organizations.
  • Perform other position-specific duties identified by the Community Education Department. 

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in curriculum or course planning and development as requested.
  • Assist with special Community Ecuation Programs, events, demonstrations, workshops or activities as assigned.
  • Provide recommendations regarding course content, instructional materials, equipment, or other resources related to the assigned course. 
  • Participate in department meetings, training, or professional development activities as appropriate. 
  • If assigned, perform administrative work related to grant-funded program activities and reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred:

  • Previous teaching, training, facilitation, or adult education experience. 
  • Experience developing or delivering workshops, classes, demonstrations, or presentations.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies appropriate for adult learners. 
  • Experience using technology or specialized equipment relevant to the assigned course. 
  •  Specialized communication, technical, creative, professional, or industry skills relevant to the course.


 

POSITION -SPECIFIC DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS

The following duties may be assigned based on the specific Community Education Course:

  • Assist welding instructors with classroom and shop setup, equipment preparation, and instructional demonstrations. 
  • Monitor welding lab activities and provide hands-on support to students while reinforcing instructor directosn and established safety procedures.
  • Maintain welding equipment, tools, consumables, and instructional materials in a clean, organized, and replacement needs.
  • Ensure compliance with welding shop safety standards, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and College safety procedures. 

POSITION SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

Requirements will vary based on the subject matter and nature of the course.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of welding processes, welding equipment, shop practices, and industry safety standards.
  • Current welding certification or documented welding industry experience preferred. 
  • Minimum of two years of welding, fabrication, manufacturing, or related industry experience.
  • Ability to safely operate and demonstrate welding shop equipment, including welding machines, grinders, cutting equipment, and related tools. 
  • Ability to recognize and address unsafe conditions and reinforce safe work practices within a welding lab environment. 
  • Ability to work effectively with adult learners, instructors, and students from diverse backgrounds. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent, unless different educational qualifications is required based on the subject matter or applicable law, regulation, leciensing, or accreditation requirements. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skill training, education certification, or experience appropriate to the subject matter being taught. 
  • Minimum of one year relevant experience in assigned course subject area, unless the community education department determines that an alternative combination of education, training, professional expertise, or demonstrated competency is appropriate for the course. 

Preferred:

  • Previous teaching, training, facilitation, coaching, mentoring, or instructional experience.
  • Relevant post-secondary education, professional certification licensure, or specialized training. 
  • Experience working with adult learners or diverse populations.
  • Experience developing instructional materials, workshops, demonstration, or training programs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • Temporary, part-time adjunct position with assignments varying based on Community Education course offerings, enrollment, departmental needs, and instructor availability. 
  • Instruction may occur during daytime, evening, or weekend hours depending on the assigned course.
  • Work may be performed in a classroom, laboratory, office, workshop, community setting, outdoor environment, online environment, or other location appropriate to the course. 
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods and move about the instructional environment as necessary to perform assigned duties. 
  • Regular use of computers, instructional technology, office equipment, and/or specialized equipment may be required depending on the course. 
  • May occasionally require lifting, carrying, pushing, or moving materials or equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.
  •  May require reaching, bending, stooping, walking, or other physical activities appropriate to the assigned instructional environment. 
  • Some courses may have additional physical, environmental, safety, or equipment requirements based on the nature of the instruction. 
  • Work schedules and physical requirements may vary by course assignment.
  • Primarily office-based with occasional field visits or off-site events.
  • Frequent interaction with students, faculty, and industry partners.
  • May require evening or weekend hours during peak activity periods.
  • May occasionally lift or carry up to 20 lbs.
  • Regular movement between seated, standing, and walking positions.
  • Standard office and occasional field environment.

 

This position is classified as part-time and is typically scheduled for up to 20 hours per week. Regularly scheduled hours may be subject to change. Hours may not exceed 128 hours per one-month pay period. Not eligible for paid holidays, vacation or healthcare benefits beyond those required by law.
