Manager, Learning and Engagement (School & Youth), Hong Kong Palace Museum

The Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) is a dedicated museum that showcases the exquisite artefacts from Palace Museum’s collections and collaborates with other museums in research, exhibitions, education and public programmes.  The museum comprises 7 800 square metres of gallery space for standing and special exhibitions on Palace Museum’s collections of paintings, calligraphy, antiquities and historical objects, as well as thematic displays on world cultures and civilisations. 

You will be responsible for:

• designing and developing engaging and inclusive learning programmes, such as workshops and lectures, catering a wide range of audience segments;
• researching, developing and implementing interpretive strategies to support exhibition development, as well as learning resources and activities to enhance visitors’ learning experience at the Museum, in collaboration with internal teams and external partners;
• developing strong partnerships with key stakeholders, external arts & culture organisations, education institutions, educators, sponsors and other partners;  
• preparing and compiling reports, conducting participant evaluation, collecting and analysing data, to provide accurate information on the outcomes and impact of museum programmes and to improve programme efficacy;
• managing a diverse range of projects to ensure they are delivered within a specific standard, budget and timeline; and
• performing any duties from time to time as reasonably as assigned by HKPM.

You should:

• possess a recognised university degree, preferably a master’s degree or higher education in education/art education, museum studies, history, arts, design, cultural management or an equivalent field;
• have a minimum of 8 years of experience of managing complex and large-scale projects with diverse responsibilities in learning, interpretation, or youth engagement programmes in art, cultural, or educational sectors; experience in event management and operations is an advantage;
• demonstrate a collaborative mindset and ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment;
• be self-motivated, organised, and possess strong problem-solving skills;
• have excellent content development skills and a good understanding of new technologies that facilitate discovery and learning in a museum setting; knowledge of Chinese art, culture and history, and international museum practices is an advantage;
• be familiar with the museum sector and the education landscape in Hong Kong and Asia;
• be available to work irregular hours, including weekends and public holidays, for events if necessary; and
• possess proficiency in both written and spoken English and Chinese; knowledge of Putonghua will be an advantage.

(Candidate with less experience may be considered for the post of Assistant Manager, Learning and Engagement.)
