What you'll do...
The HVAC/R Training Manager develops and delivers safety-focused technical training for HVAC/R Technicians supporting Walmart stores and Sam’s Clubs. This role equips technicians with the skills to safely install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair commercial HVAC, refrigeration, and controls systems. Through classroom, virtual, and hands-on instruction, the trainer promotes standardized maintenance practices, advanced diagnostics, controls integration, and quality repairs. Working closely with field leaders, equipment manufacturers, and business partners, this position helps improve technician performance, safety compliance, equipment reliability, refrigeration uptime, and operational excellence across the business.
About the team:
The Northeast BU Training team supports the safe, reliable operation of commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems across Walmart and Sam’s Club locations. This position will be located in the Northeast Business Unit and plays a critical role in developing technician capability through training, coaching, and field support. Partnering with technicians, leaders, OEMs, and controls vendors, the team promotes safety, operational excellence, and consistent maintenance standards. This role requires up to 75-90% travel to training sites and store or club locations, helping drive technician performance, equipment reliability, and exceptional customer experiences across a large geographic region from Maine to Illinois.
What you'll do:
- Deliver classroom, virtual, and hands-on training covering commercial HVAC, refrigeration, controls, and preventive maintenance programs.
- Develop training materials, assessments, SOPs, and job aids that reinforce safety and technical standards.
- Train technicians on refrigeration rack systems, EMS/BMS controls, transcritical CO₂ systems, glycol systems, and HVAC technologies.
- Evaluate technician competency through written and practical assessments while providing coaching and field support.
- Partner with OEMs, controls vendors, and internal stakeholders to align training with evolving technologies and operational needs.
- Continuously improve training programs using technician feedback, performance metrics, equipment updates, and business priorities.
What you'll bring:
- Experience maintaining and repairing commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems, including rack refrigeration and controls technologies.
- Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, and control system fundamentals.
- Ability to teach, coach, and evaluate technical skills in a hands-on environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and safe work practices.
- Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 85% throughout the East Business Unit.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with transcritical CO2 systems
- Experience working with glycol systems
- Trade school or apprenticeship training
- EPA Universal Certification, RETA, OEM certifications
- Experience developing technical training programs and supporting multi-site retail or commercial refrigeration operations

The annual salary range for this position is $80,000.00 - $155,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
