Recreation Leader II (PACC - Senior Center)

This position is budgeted for $17.34/hour.

This is a PARS (Public Agency Retirement System) budgeted position and is limited to 999 hours per fiscal year.

This is not a PERS eligible position.

SUMMARY:

The City of Escondido is seeking a dynamic individual to join our dedicated team, delivering exceptional services and support to our senior community. We are hiring for the position of Recreation Leader II at the Park Avenue Community Center, the heart of Escondido Senior Services, which also offers community-based programs for all ages after 3:00 p.m. As the front counter staff, you will engage with the public, provide outstanding customer service, and assist with the daily operations of the Park Avenue Community Center (PACC). The position requires availability on weekdays (4:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.) and weekends as needed (8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.).

Key responsibilities:

• Under the direct supervision of the Community Services Supervisor, this position will assist customers in front counter operations including but not limited to activity registration, answering phones/emails, handling payments, preparing room/auditorium set-ups, and general office duties.
• Assists City staff, outside agencies, and the general public regarding all community programs offered by the City of Escondido.

• Monitors all activities occurring in the facility to assure the safety and security of the public and staff.
• Provide excellent customer service via phone, email, and in person.
• Handle all emergencies, incidents, and/or injuries.
• Promote programs and events to customers.

• All other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate for this position will:

• Bilingual (English/Spanish)
• Be energetic, self-motivated, and team-orientated in a fast-paced, often busy environment 
• Provide strong customer service skills and abilities to work with community members of all ages, volunteers, outside agency representatives, and City staff
• Have excellent oral and written skills to communicate with the community members and City staff
• Be organized and able to multi-task 
• Work independently and request assistance when necessary
• Have knowledge of Microsoft Professional Suite
• Have experience working in a public service environment or customer service

• Have the ability to lift 50 lbs. 

Minimum requirements:

• 18 years of age at the time of employment
• High school graduate or equivalent
• First Aid and CPR Certification completed within the first 3 months of employment

SELECTION PROCEDURE

Applications will be screened and the most qualified candidates will be invited to appear for testing. All positions require the ability to read, write and speak English. Types of tests may include written and/or oral examination, physical agility, practical exam or other appropriate job-related selection process.  When testing is completed, candidates will be ranked on an eligibility list in the order of their test score. Selection for appointments is made from names certified on the eligibility list.

All appointments are subject to the successful completion of background investigation including LIVESCAN fingerprinting, and will be required to submit verification of the legal right to work in the United States.  Qualification by a medical examination will be required at the time of appointment. After appointment, classified employees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period to be eligible for regular status.  In accordance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, all new employees must produce proof of eligibility to work in the United States within the first three days of their employment.  The City of Escondido participates in E-Verify®.

The Loyalty Oath will be administered to all new employees on their first day of hire.  New employees hired into positions that require a driver's license must provide proof of a valid California Driver's License of the appropriate class level on their first day of employment.
