Description
East West Rail is a nationally significant railway project which aims to deliver much-needed transport connections for the vibrant communities between Oxford, Milton Keynes, Bedford and Cambridge. Together these communities contribute around £111 billion to the national economy each year.
EWR is being championed by the Government as a key driver to economic growth leading to a potential £78 Billion boost to the UK economy: supporting new towns, housing, and regeneration.
This role will support the Commercial Continuous Improvement Lead and the wider commercial team, by providing a strategic 'live' picture of the programme of EWR’s commercial activity. This will include key milestone tracking, building procurement programmes to include governance and approval requirements for procurements, and reporting on supplier and contract management activities.
What you'll be doing
- Manage and maintain the EWR Commercial Programme Plan, ensuring visibility across all commercial activity
- Track progress, risks, dependencies and bottlenecks using recognised programme management methodologies
- Flag resourcing constraints before they become delivery issues
- Build strong relationships across internal teams and external governance organisations
- Report on commercial milestones, governance points and assurance activities
- Support Commercial Sub-Committee and higher governance processes, including approvals and action tracking
- Prepare clear, compelling reports for senior management
- Analyse contract values and headroom to anticipate upcoming governance needs
- Support budget reporting and cost centre planning
- Help develop training materials for the Commercial function.
What you'll bring
- Strong technical capability with tools such as Primavera P6, PowerBI, and other planning/reporting systems.
- Experience coordinating multiple concurrent projects with multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to identify risks, dependencies and mitigation strategies.
- Sharp analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication — able to influence, clarify and steer conversations with senior stakeholders.
- Understanding of public sector governance models and regulatory frameworks.
- A cost‑conscious mindset and a proactive, improvement‑driven approach.
