Position Summary
The Head of Everest Underwriting Partners is responsible for the strategic leadership, profitable growth, and overall performance of Everest's delegated authority business, representing more than $500 million in gross written premium. This executive serves as the business leader for the portfolio and is accountable for underwriting performance, portfolio management, distribution strategy, partner engagement, governance, operational effectiveness, and financial results.
Leading a team of underwriting, program management, and operational professionals, this individual will develop and execute a long-term strategy that drives sustainable growth while maintaining disciplined underwriting, strong governance, and superior risk-adjusted returns. The role requires a market-facing leader capable of building and strengthening strategic relationships with Program Administrators, Managing General Agents (MGAs), Managing General Underwriters (MGUs), brokers, reinsurers, and other key stakeholders.
The successful candidate will possess deep expertise across delegated authority and program business, a broad understanding of Property & Casualty insurance products, and a demonstrated track record of leading large-scale insurance operations with significant P&L accountability. This leader will partner closely with colleagues across Wholesale & Specialty, Operations, Claims, Finance, Actuarial, Legal, Compliance, and Technology to advance Everest's strategic objectives and deliver superior outcomes for clients, partners, and shareholders.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Business Management
Establish and execute the strategic vision for Everest Underwriting Partners, aligned with the broader objectives of Everest Insurance and Global Wholesale & Specialty.
Drive profitable growth through disciplined portfolio management, strategic capital deployment, and effective cycle management.
Lead the development and execution of annual and multi-year business plans, including production, retention, profitability, and operational performance objectives.
Identify emerging market opportunities, distribution trends, and partnership opportunities to expand Everest's delegated authority platform.
Serve as a key member of the Wholesale & Specialty leadership team, contributing to enterprise-wide strategic planning and decision making.
Portfolio Strategy & Underwriting Management
Define underwriting strategy, risk appetite, portfolio objectives, and growth priorities across all Programs business.
Ensure consistent underwriting discipline and governance across programs and delegated authority arrangements.
Direct evaluation and approval of new program opportunities, including assessment of leadership teams, underwriting capabilities, operational controls, and financial performance.
Partner closely with actuarial, reinsurance, and underwriting leadership to assess portfolio performance, pricing adequacy, loss trends, and emerging risks.
Lead decisions regarding program expansion, remediation, restructuring, or termination based on strategic and financial performance.
MGA/MGU & Distribution Leadership
Serve as the executive sponsor for Everest's most strategic delegated authority relationships.
Develop and execute partnership strategies that enhance distribution capabilities and support long-term profitable growth.
Lead negotiations related to program agreements, binding authorities, compensation structures, and partnership frameworks.
Maintain strong relationships with senior executives across key MGA, MGU, Program Administrator, broker, and distribution partner organizations.
Represent Everest externally as a market leader within the delegated authority and program insurance community.
Portfolio Analytics & Financial Performance
Maintain overall accountability for portfolio profitability, growth, expense management, and return on capital.
Establish and monitor key performance indicators to assess underwriting, operational, and financial performance.
Oversee portfolio analytics, accumulation management, catastrophe exposure monitoring, and performance reporting.
Present portfolio strategy, performance trends, and business results to executive leadership, governance committees, and reinsurance stakeholders.
Drive continuous improvement in data quality, reporting capabilities, and portfolio transparency.
Governance, Risk & Compliance
Establish and maintain a robust governance framework supporting all delegated underwriting relationships.
Oversee underwriting audits, operational reviews, compliance assessments, and partner governance processes.
Ensure compliance with applicable state, regulatory, contractual, and internal governance requirements.
Partner with Legal, Compliance, Risk Management, and Internal Audit teams to manage regulatory obligations and remediate identified issues.
Ensure appropriate oversight of bordereaux management, underwriting controls, and delegated authority performance standards.
Operational Excellence
Partner with Operations and Technology leaders to enhance efficiency, scalability, and effectiveness across the business.
Champion innovation through the use of data, analytics, and technology-enabled underwriting capabilities.
Drive operational excellence by improving workflows, reporting processes, and portfolio management capabilities.
Support modernization initiatives that improve underwriting quality, partner experience, and business performance.
Leadership & Talent Development
Lead, inspire, and develop a diverse, high-performing team focused on accountability, collaboration, and execution excellence.
Partner with business and functional leaders across Everest to drive enterprise alignment and business performance.
Champion the principles of One Everest, promoting collaboration across regions, products, and functions to maximize customer value and shareholder returns.
Qualifications
15+ years of experience in P&C Insurance in North America
15+ years of experience in delegated authority distribution channel
In-depth knowledge of core P&C Insurance products, including property, casualty, liability and specialty lines
Extensive experience managing and driving the P&L for an Insurance business
Proven ability to develop and manage Sales and Distribution channels, adjusting strategies and actions to meet the needs of a changing marketplace
Extensive experience engaging with Program Administrators, MGA’s and MGU’s
Ability to develop and execute a strategy across multiple lines and disciplines, assessing options for growth and operational efficiency
Proven track record of excellent leadership and team building skills to foster a high performance culture
Has a sound understanding of US insurance market and can work across multiple regions and segments to scale solutions
Strong analytical and leadership skills with proven experience leading diverse, high-performing teams
Demonstrated ability to organize, lead and get work done collaborating with others
Oversee the development and management of all aspects of underwriting strategy, aligning with the overall Everest Insurance strategic plan, and translating the strategy into clear underwriting guidelines and limits of authority
Ability to travel up to 50% of time, as needed
The base salary range for this position is $310,000 - $400,000 annually. The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, experience, qualifications and work location.
