HR & Development Specialist
Weaver Popcorn Manufacturing | Van Buren, Indiana
Onsite | Salaried | Compensation based on experience
Help people get a strong start, and build a future, with Weaver.
We’re looking for an approachable, organized HR & Development Specialist to lead recruiting, own onboarding, and strengthen the team member experience. In this role, you’ll help us find the right people, support them through their first 90 days, and turn feedback into improvements that help people succeed and stay.
You’ll partner with the HR Business Partner, plant leaders, and Continuous Skills Development team. Your work will take you from candidate interviews and orientation to conversations on the production floor. Being comfortable connecting with people from different backgrounds, experiences, and shifts is essential.
What you’ll own:
Talent acquisition
- Manage full-cycle recruiting for all positions, including sourcing, screening, interviews, candidate communication, offers, and pre-employment requirements.
- Partner with hiring leaders to understand staffing needs and create job postings and interview questions that reflect the work.
- Build candidate pipelines through referrals, community partnerships, schools, and other recruiting resources.
Onboarding and the new-hire experience
- Own onboarding from accepted offer through the team member’s first 90 days, including preboarding, orientation, first-day readiness, and coordination with department training.
- Manage 30-, 60-, and 90-day touchpoints and reviews, ensuring supervisors and new hires understand expectations and complete meaningful conversations.
- Connect directly with new hires across shifts, identify barriers, and coordinate follow-up so concerns are addressed.
Engagement, retention, and development
- Gather feedback through new-hire check-ins, team member conversations, surveys, and exit feedback.
- Use feedback and workforce data to continuously refine onboarding, engagement, and retention processes.
- Partner with leaders to put improvements into practice, follow through on commitments, and measure results.
- Support training coordination, proficiency milestones, and development opportunities alongside Continuous Skills Development and Operations.
HR administration and support
- Coordinate FMLA and other leave processes, including documentation, tracking, communication, and return-to-work coordination.
- Manage unemployment claims, timely responses, supporting documentation, and hearing preparation.
- Support attendance administration, HR system updates, personnel records, and reporting.
- Provide helpful, confidential HR support and involve the HR Manager when concerns require additional guidance.
What you’ll bring
- Three or more years of relevant experience in human resources, talent acquisition, workforce development, or a related field.
- A bachelor’s degree in HR, business, organizational development, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of leave administration, unemployment claims, attendance processes, and HR recordkeeping.
- Strong communication, organization, and follow-through, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Sound judgment when handling sensitive information and responding to team member concerns.
- Comfort using HR systems, applicant tracking tools, spreadsheets, and reporting tools.
Experience with a manufacturing or hourly workforce, high-volume recruiting, structured onboarding, or retention programs is preferred.
How you work matters
You’re friendly, curious, and willing to start a conversation. You listen carefully, communicate respectfully, and build relationships with people whose experiences may differ from your own. You’re comfortable spending time on the production floor, asking questions, and following through.
Our values guide our daily decisions: Committed, Trustworthy, Purpose Driven, Positive Mindset, and Growth Oriented.
