Code Enforcement Officer - Part Time

The Code Enforcement Officer performs duties related to providing information, educating residents, and ensuring compliance with the Town’s municipal code. This is a flexible, part-time position requiring approximately 24–29 hours per week. The work schedule may vary based on assignments and may include any day Monday through Saturday, with Fridays and Saturdays preferred. Occasional evenings may be required. Works under the general supervision of the Code Enforcement Supervisor.

Position is non-exempt under FLSA.

Hiring Range $26.83 – $33.46 Depending on Qualifications

• Investigate code violations and resident complaints of code violations.
• Patrol the Town and enforce municipal code including, but not limited to, public nuisance and public safety code violations (i.e. junk/trash, extended living in RV, abandoned vehicle, unattached trailer on street, weeds, snow & ice removal, sign and landscape compliance, etc.).
• Write and post violation notices and issue verbal as well as written warnings to violators. (Position does not possess arrest powers).
• Answer inquiries and explain applicable code regulations to the public.
• Prepare and maintain records and reports on code violations with digital photos when needed.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those professionals contacted in the course of work.
• Conduct investigations of reported non-criminal offenses/incidents to collect evidence, statements, and other relevant information.
• Coordinate efforts, when necessary, with Boulder County Sheriff's Office on violations of the municipal code.
• May be required to provide testimony in court regarding investigation and/or citation.
• Works with other department staff to address daily issues in the field throughout the Town. 
• Coordinate with the Sheriff's Office staff to address issues that present hazards, such as vehicle obstruction. 
• Supports construction observation and traffic monitoring.

• Demonstrated knowledge of county and state laws, rules, regulations and policies.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Superior Municipal Code, and the Colorado Revised Statutes relating to government.
• Ability to read, understand, interpret, and apply federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, policies, procedures and standards.
• Knowledge of safety issues and hazards pertaining to the municipal code.
• Knowledge of weed species and animal species.
• Knowledge of computers and related software programs.
• Ability to exercise sound independent judgment within established guidelines and make immediate yet critical decisions related to enforcement in the absence of supervision.
• Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to handle and respond effectively to conflict situations and people in conflict.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, subordinates, and the general public.
• Knowledge of basic principles of First Aid and CPR.
• Ability to recognize and respect limit of authority and responsibility.

Work Environment
The majority of the work is performed in the field and on occasion in inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to equipment vibration, fumes, airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.  The employee may occasionally work in high precarious places, and is exposed to electrical shock and sharp objects.

Special License, Registration, or Certification Required
High school diploma or equivalent. Some college courses in Code Enforcement or related field desired.  Minimum one year of code enforcement, law enforcement, or related experience desired.  Must possess and maintain a current State of Colorado Driver's License with a clean record.  Ability to obtain certification in First Aid and CPR within six months.  Ability to obtain the Colorado Association of Code Enforcement Officials (CACEO) Basic Certification Course within 12 months. Ability to obtain the Colorado Association of Code Enforcement Officials (CACEO) Advanced Certification Course within 24 months. Must be at least 21 years of age.
