Job Purpose
About Obviously
Obviously is trusted by lawyers, marketers, brand, and finance teams to protect, manage, and grow what matters most: their brand and IP. Our platform brings together AI-powered brand protection, intangible asset management, and legal business intelligence in one connected suite, replacing siloed tools and manual processes with data-driven, actionable insight. Built originally for the music and video games industry, our technology now helps organisations of every size defend their assets online and offline, streamline legal operations, and turn IP data into commercial strategy.
About the roleWe're looking for a driven, consultative Business Development Manager (BDM) to grow revenue across our three core solutions:
- Obviously Protect — an AI-powered brand protection platform that detects and takes down counterfeits, lookalikes, and IP infringements online and offline, combining computer vision, web scraping, and human intelligence.
- Obviously Manage — an intangible asset management platform (IPMS) that gives legal and brand teams one connected home for matters, portfolios, enforcement workflows, documents, and reporting.
- Obviously Discover — the first legal business intelligence platform, helping organisations turn marketing, sales, and brand data into sharper IP strategy and commercial decisions.
As BDM, you'll own the full sales cycle — from prospecting and qualifying to demoing, negotiating, and closing — selling into legal, brand protection, marketing, and finance stakeholders at target organisations. You'll be a trusted advisor who understands each buyer's IP challenges and can position the right combination of Obviously's solutions to solve them.
Job Overview
Key Responsibilities
- Build and manage a pipeline of qualified opportunities across Protect, Manage, and Discover through outbound prospecting, inbound follow-up, and channel/partner leads.
- Run consultative discovery calls to understand a prospect's brand protection, IP management, and legal-data challenges, and map Obviously's solutions to their needs.
- Deliver compelling product demonstrations and tailored proposals, often in partnership with Solutions Engineering and Customer Success.
- Own commercial negotiations and contracting through to signature, working closely with Legal and Finance as needed.
- Identify and develop cross-sell and upsell opportunities across the three solutions within existing accounts, in partnership with Account Management.
- Maintain accurate forecasting and pipeline hygiene in Salesforce, and report on activity, pipeline health, and results against quota.
- Represent Obviously at industry events, webinars, and conferences (IP, brand protection, legal ops, and gaming/entertainment sectors) to build market presence and generate leads.
- Stay current on trends in brand protection, IP management, and legal tech, and feed market and competitor insight back to Product and Marketing.
- Collaborate with Marketing on campaigns, messaging, and content that support pipeline generation for each solution.
Skills & Experience
- 3+ years of experience in a quota-carrying B2B sales or business development role, ideally in SaaS, legal tech, brand protection, or IP services.
- A track record of consistently meeting or exceeding revenue targets, with experience managing a full sales cycle from prospecting to close.
- Comfort selling to and influencing multiple stakeholders (legal, brand, marketing, finance) and adapting the pitch to each audience.
- Strong discovery and consultative selling skills — you ask good questions and genuinely diagnose the problem before proposing a solution.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence presenting to senior stakeholders and negotiating commercial terms.
- Familiarity with CRM and sales engagement tools (e.g. Salesforce, HubSpot, Outreach) and a disciplined approach to pipeline management.
- Self-starter mentality, comfortable working in a fast-moving, growing company where priorities evolve.
- Nice to have: existing experience or network in IP/legal, brand protection, anti-counterfeiting, or the music, gaming, or entertainment industries.
