Purpose of the Job
To support the ES Manager with technical support and provide direction to the site, in the area of environmental and safety related issues. To ensure the site complies with all associated legislative and corporate standards, in relation to Safety and the Environment.
Main characteristics:
The job requires balancing the constant search for new improved ways of working, together with the sustained implementation of agreed ways of working
- The consistent adoption of structured target setting and performance management processes
- Act as driver for ES improvements across the site
- Constant focus and leadership to ensure responsibility and accountability are driven to, and enforced at, the lowest level within the day to day operations
- Ensure effective ES training/communication and co-ordination across the brewery.

- Departmental Financial targets, as agreed, including:
- ZBB Package sub owner for Fees (Legal and professional)
- Waste management budget
- Reporting for ZBB People Package (Uniform and PPE)
- VPO implementation and adherence

Accountabilities
- Supports ES Manager with the day to day delivery of ES performance through VPO so as to achieve the Site ES targets and to meet legal/corporate requirements, through communication, training, audit and review processes
- Supports the ES Manager in fulfilling their duties in all aspects of ES requiring such a role, and to deputise for them in their absence
- Assist the ES Manager in the management of contractor processes with regard to ES policies and procedures inclusive of induction and training
- Ensure full site compliance will all Statutory, Company and VPO ES requirements, including, but not restricted to:
- Crisis management and emergency systems
- Development and compliance with ES management systems
- 5S Management and support
- ES training, across the full site
- Compliance with safety & environmental legislation in relation to by-products, waste management and waste water treatment
- Environmental Permit compliance and reporting
- Accident/Incident reporting and investigation
- Management of departmental ES checklists
- Performance Management & compliance with disciplinary procedures
- Support ES Manager with the coaching and development of all employee groups in all aspects of ES
- Raise the profile of ES both internally and with our external stakeholders through promotional activity and initiatives
Qualifications and Technical competencies required
Education
- Working towards or having achieved Corporate Membership of IOSH, IIRSM and/or an Environmental Professional Organisation such as IEMA
- Working towards or having achieved NEBOSH Certificate/Diploma or equivalent NVQ qualification
Experience
- Health and Safety experience in a unionized FMCG operation
- Hands on experience of Environmental Legislation inclusive of IPPC and Waste Management Regulations through environmental management systems and processes
- Project management
- Experience of meeting challenging ES targets and KPIs
- Experience of management systems, preferably within ES environment
- Experience of working with Safety and Environmental principles and techniques
- A sound knowledge of manufacturing principles, tools and techniques
- Experience of delivering process improvement
- Experience of supporting/promoting good sound contractor relationships
Technical competencies:
- Sound knowledge of environmental and safety management processes;
