Description

OVERVIEW

The Mechanical Engineering Department in the College of Engineering at the University of St. Thomas is seeking applications for a tenure track faculty position.  This is an exciting time for growth in the Mechanical Engineering program at St Thomas, as we have recently moved into the new $110M Schoenecker Center with state-of-the-art engineering labs, including a prototyping center, robotics and automation lab, and an advanced materials lab, as well as an expansion of our Manufacturing & Machining Center.  As a student-focused institution with a strong hands-on curriculum, we emphasize undergraduate and graduate education that provides technical excellence with a significant emphasis on real world applications. Our undergraduate curriculum includes minors in Aerospace Engineering and Biomedical Engineering, providing students with opportunities to explore these applications. Successful candidates will be expected to develop and deliver engaging undergraduate and graduate courses and to establish and maintain an active research program. Candidates should be highly qualified to teach undergraduate dynamics, including topics in particle and rigid-body kinematics and kinetics. We welcome applicants from a broad range of areas that build upon or complement this foundation, including, but not limited to, multibody and three-dimensional rigid-body dynamics, robotics and robotic mechanisms, flight dynamics, aerospace engineering, biomedical engineering and other areas relevant to mechanical engineering.

Faculty at UST have the freedom to grow and pursue excellence in their area of engineering passion as educators and researchers. The University’s location in the thriving community of Minneapolis-St. Paul provides a vibrant platform for projects in a broad range of high-tech disciplines. Join our growing team as we work with the next generation of engineers in an environment where interdisciplinary work, discovery and innovation is a way of life.  Learn more about life as a faculty member at St. Thomas.

The College of Engineering actively seeks to attract, retain and develop faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds to enhance the diversity of the learning community, and to offer our students richly varied perspectives.  The University of St. Thomas embraces diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity for all. Our convictions of dignity, diversity and personal attention call us to embody and champion a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment.  The University is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer (EEO).  All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, status as a protected veteran, or other protected characteristic. We are committed to building a skilled team that represents a variety of backgrounds and perspectives. This commitment is consistent with our mission statement: Inspired by Catholic intellectual tradition, the University of St. Thomas educates students to think critically, act wisely, and work skillfully to advance the common good. A successful candidate will have a commitment to the ideals of this mission.

Salary & Benefits

The University of St. Thomas offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits program, which includes:

  • Tuition remission benefits for employees, spouses, and dependents upon eligibility
  • A generous employer retirement contribution upon eligibility
  • Medical, dental, and vision options
  • Employer-paid disability, life, and AD&D benefits
  • Paid parental leave benefits

Salary range for this position is $77,500 - $116,000

The University of St. Thomas has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

QUALIFICATIONS

A PhD (U.S. or Foreign Equivalent) in a relevant Engineering discipline is required, as well as a clearly articulated vision for advancing a research program. For candidates who are nearing the completion of their PhD, a timeline for Ph.D. completion will be discussed during the interview process and agreed upon prior to extension of an offer.  All applicants must have demonstrable skills necessary for excellence in teaching.  For candidates whose primary experience is in the engineering industry (outside of academia), skill in teaching may be demonstrated based on other professional experiences which require leadership, mentorship and presentation skills.

Review of applications will begin on 11/1/26 and will continue until the position is filled. Please contact the search committee chair, Dr. Katherine Acton ([email protected]) if you have any questions.

How to Apply

To be considered for this opportunity, all applicants must apply online at https://www.stthomas.edu/jobs/.

  • a written statement of research interests, and a plan to develop a successful research program at St. Thomas. A successful research program at St. Thomas is one that would support student research and advance the national profile of the College of Engineering

Please upload only the documents specifically requested in the job posting at this stage. Do not upload any additional materials into other available fields. Candidates selected for further review may be contacted later to submit additional materials.

Step 2.

After submitting your applicant profile, you will be directed to the job‑specific application. During this step, you will be asked to:
