As part of our continued regional growth strategy, we are excited to be establishing a new Environmental office in Cairns. This is a unique opportunity to join a brand-new operation from the ground up and play a key role in shaping its success. As one of the foundation team members, you'll have the chance to contribute to building local client relationships, developing operational processes, and supporting the growth of ALS across Far North Queensland.
The role
ALS Environmental is seeking a full-time Logistics Officer to join our newly established Cairns’ office.
This is an exciting opportunity to become a founding member of our newest regional location and help shape the future of environmental testing services across Far North Queensland. Working closely with clients, couriers and laboratory teams across Australia, you'll play a critical role in ensuring environmental samples are received, prepared and transported accurately and efficiently. You'll gain hands-on experience across client services, logistics coordination and laboratory operations while contributing to the successful growth of a new regional office.
If you enjoy variety, thrive in a fast-paced environment and want to be part of building something from the ground up, we'd love to hear from you.
No prior laboratory experience? No problem. Full on-site training will be provided, along with ongoing support from our friendly and close-knit regional team.

- Liaise with internal teams and clients regarding sample requirements and queries
- Maintain sample storage and ensure safe handling and disposal practices
- Support team operations and contribute to a positive, collaborative work environment
- These activities are critical to ensuring smooth day-to-day operations, timely sample processing, and strong client service outcomes.
The Essentials:
We are looking for a reliable and adaptable individual who enjoys variety in their work and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
This is a hands-on operational role that combines client service, logistics and sample handling responsibilities. You will need to be organised, detail-focused and capable of managing multiple priorities while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and service.
You will bring:

- Excellent communication, organisation and time management skills
- Ability to manage multiple competing tasks efficiently and accurately
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality outcomes
- Confidence working both independently and as part of a team
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with a willingness to learn

- Flexibility with working hours and availability
- Enthusiasm for joining a new office environment and contributing to the growth and success of a developing regional operation
Physical and work environment requirements
This is a physically active role involving regular movement across logistics, sample handling and warehouse tasks. You can expect:

- General warehouse-style tasks, including maintaining storage areas and workspaces
The role may also involve occasional outdoor work in dispatch areas, travel between local collection points, and working in a fast-paced environment with time-sensitive deadlines.
