Position Summary:

The Teaching Assistant of CS105: Network Communication and Security Fundamentals for CompTIA Security+ preparation supports both the class instructor and students as they prepare for the certification exam. Responsibilities include assisting the instructor, helping create practice test questions, supervising students during the in-person practice tests, and correcting their answers. The Teaching Assistant, who has already earned the Security+ certification, also provides tutoring and study strategies. This role fosters collaborative learning, strengthens exam readiness, and helps students build confidence in taking the CompTIA Security+ certification exam.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

· Meet with students one-on-one or in small groups, in person to provide support for CompTIA Security+ exam preparation.

· Assist the instructor in preparing practice test questions, supervising students during practice tests, reviewing and correcting their answers, and having a 30-minute one-on-one meeting with the course instructor each week.

· Maintain clear and effective communication with students regarding their progress, upcoming sessions, and any questions or concerns.

· Coordinate and schedule tutoring sessions with individual students or groups.

· Share contact information with students to facilitate communication in case a session needs to be missed or rescheduled.

· Wait at least 15 minutes for students to arrive for scheduled tutoring appointments.

· Explain, break down, and simplify cybersecurity concepts to enhance student understanding.

· Complete and submit weekly timesheets to the supervisor in a timely manner.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

· Currently enrolled student at Franklin Cummings Tech

· Must maintain good academic standing (a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or above). 

· Work a minimum of 2 days a week between 9am-3pm with some shifts as needed. 

· Should have passed the CompTIA Sec+ exam

· Must complete the entire Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

· Must demonstrate financial need and indicate your interest in the work-study program

· Must be currently enrolled in enough credit hours at Benjamin Franklin Cummings Institute of Technology to qualify for the Federal work-study program.

The College Work-Study Program provides jobs for students with financial need. This program is a subsidized student employment program designed to assist students in financing their post-secondary education. Students earn money according to the hours worked and these funds help pay their educational expenses. In order to be eligible for Work-Study, students must document financial need every year by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Work-study is a need based award that cannot be awarded to a student if the award combined with other resources would exceed the student’s need. Students are awarded funds based on their financial need but are only paid for hours worked. 

Any unearned funds at the end of the program term are forfeited. Students applying for this work-study position are not guaranteed a position. Work-study earnings are not paid in advance so they cannot be used to pay the direct costs (tuition, books, etc.) of the semester in which they are awarded.

Students are required to work 10 hours a semester in a capacity that serves the community or supports literacy.

The hourly wage for this position is $17.00 hourly.
