Who You Are:
We’re seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Controller to join our team. This individual will be responsible for managing our financial activities. Reporting to the VP, Finance, this role owns the daily and monthly accounting operations. This position is hybrid, operating out of our office in Fort Worth, Texas. The primary work schedule is 90% remote, 10% in-person.
What You'll Do:
- External Stakeholder Relations:
- Collaborate with external auditors and tax consultants to maintain strong relationships and ensure compliance with reporting requirements
- Tax Management:
- Lead the tax management function by managing an external tax advisory firm
- Conversant in federal partnership tax returns,, state sales tax, multi-state employment, and nexus questions
- Lead the 1099 process
- Audit Management:
- Lead the annual audit process by managing the audit firm
- Manage the annual audit as the primary day-to-day contact; coordinate PBC lists, schedules, and issue resolution
- Transformational Projects:
- Making things automated and efficient while strengthening our internal controls
- Financial Reporting and Month-End Close:
- Manage all month, quarter, and year-end closing activities, overseeing the full schedule and task delegation to ensure timely delivery of financial statements to the VP, Finance.
- Lead intercompany and multi-entity consolidations within NetSuite, maintaining the structural integrity of the chart of accounts and subsidiary mappings.
- Author technical accounting documentation and oversee compliance for ASC 606 revenue recognition and ASC 926 content cost management, including necessary impairment reviews.
- Team Mentorship:
- Experience growing and mentoring senior accounting level professionals
How You Will Succeed:
- Deep understanding of accounting principles, financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting techniques.
- Capability to think critically and develop comprehensive financial strategies aligned with business objectives.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively present complex financial information to senior management and stakeholders.
- Experience in any of the following industries preferred but not necessary: media, entertainment, live events, subscription businesses, or content/film cost accounting
- Examples of using AI to improve accounting processes will be considered a differentiator
What We Are Looking For:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in good standing
- Deep working fluency in NetSuite or a similar ERP — comfortable in the chart of accounts, subsidiary and consolidation setup, saved searches, and reporting, not just consuming outputs from it.
- 8+ years experience with demonstrated increasing responsibility
