Description

OVERVIEW

The Theology Department in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of St. Thomas invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Theological Ethics at the rank of assistant professor to begin in the fall semester of 2027. The position requires specialization in topics of faith and health and teaching competency in Catholic social thought.

  • The successful candidate will teach “Foundations,” our introductory undergraduate course in theology. This course may be customized for topics specific to faith and health.
  • They will also teach upper-level undergraduate theology courses that will serve all St. Thomas undergraduates, especially those interested in pursuing study in the health professions. These courses include, for example, “Catholic Social Thought,” “Moral Theology,” “Faith and Healthcare Professions,” and “Bioethics.” The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop additional courses according to their interests.
  • We welcome applications from scholars who are able to integrate interreligious and multifaith perspectives in discussions of health and healthcare.
  • We also welcome applications from scholars whose courses could satisfy the St. Thomas core curriculum requirements in “Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Justice” or “Global Perspectives.”
  • The University has a robust “January-term” program, with courses both on campus and in our study abroad program. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach abroad at our campus in Rome or in another location.
  • The standard teaching load is six, 4 credit in-person courses per year. Online and blended courses may also be offered based on need and in consultation with the department chair.
  • The individual hired will be expected to maintain an active scholarly agenda.
  • Advising and other service commitments are also required.
