Summary of Responsibilities:
Per essential duties and responsibilities described below, the Quality Supervisor shall oversee and lead laboratory functions, and support food safety and quality systems in a way that most effectively promotes the manufacture of foods under sanitary conditions, and within regulatory requirements and product specifications.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Schedule, supervise, coach, and mentor lab technicians.
2. Develop and deploy lab standard operating procedures and provide training to lab staff as needed.
3. Assist with quality related new hire training, and assist with deployment of organizational food safety and quality training as needed (GMP’s, HACCP, Allergens, Food Security, Pest Control, SQF, etc).
4. Maintain calibration of lab related equipment such that regulatory and company requirements are met.
5. Maintain a complete and organized archive of lab related documentation, and ensure corrective actions are documented as needed.
6. With input from the Quality Manager, schedule and supervise the activities of the Quality Specialist.
7. Review COA’s for select incoming materials, and issue COA’s for outgoing shipments as needed.
8. Execute the environmental monitoring per program requirements.
9. Populate and issue product hold records as needed.
10. Review lab finished product testing data to ensure products meet specification, and carry out product positive release activities.
11. Interact with manufacturing supervisors in such a way as to foster collaboration conducive to furthering product quality and safety objectives.
12. Provide assistance with plant audits (internal/external) as needed.
13. Assist with product complaints as needed.
14. Maintain an inventory of, and purchase lab supplies.
15. Assist in the development of the plant annual lab budget.
16. Serve as backup to the Quality Manager in their absence.
17. Administer the Collective Bargaining Agreement within HR guidelines.
18. Coach and council employees when appropriate in accordance with Saputo’s policies and work rules.
19. Perform other duties as required.
Education & Experience:
§ Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Food Science or a related field, or equivalent experience required.
§ 1-2 years of food industry experience in a Quality Supervisor role, preferred. Dairy industry experience, preferred.
§ SQF Practitioner certification, preferred.
§ HACCP certification, preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

§ Working knowledge of lab equipment and test procedures.
§ Working knowledge of computer programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Maestro (AS400), etc.)
§ Ability to execute effectively as part of a team, or independently.
§ Working knowledge of regulatory requirements (WDA, FDA, USDA, Drug Residue, etc.).
§ Must possess strong leadership, communication, analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
§ Ability to obtain SQF Practitioner status, and HACCP certification.
§ Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
§ Ability to work flexible hours.
