The Senior Accountant is responsible for the timely and qualitative execution of Accounting Operations in the area of General Accounting according to the defined activity split and contributing to the reliability of the Group Financial Statements in his / her scope of responsibility by applying IFRS/CKA guidelines, thereby allowing a certification by external auditors.

 

Major Tasks & Responsibilities

• Provide General Accounting expertise and advise Business and site Controlling on accounting topics
• Rebate & commission accounting analysis and review; Credit Upon Proof of Receipt (CUPS) accounting
• Intangible & fixed asset in-use analysis
• Accounting Liaison with the Tax group to ensure non-income tax audits and transfer price topics are accounted for properly.
• Catalyst Accounting
• Closing coordinator, as well as ensuring open invoices are properly accrued
• Miscellaneous accruals such as duty drawback, DL trading and most favored nation (MFN)
• Coordination of quarterly accounting review of essential contracts
• Ensure documentation and implementation of all necessary desktop procedures/controls in accounting.
• Vendor Check Printing; Processing of misc. check deposit
• Backup for various Transactional Accounting activities
• Analyze accounts and prepare reconciliations
• Specialized ad hoc support and project support specific to own area of expertise.
• Provide external and internal audit support. Perform ICS controls within own area of expertise and responsibility. Ensure accurate external Group Financial Statements without audit findings.
   

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or Business with 3+ years of related experience; OR Master’s in Finance, Accounting or Business with 2+ years of related experience

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

• Experience with enterprise-wide business systems (FI/CO modules of SAP)
• Knowledge of the Covestro business and internal reporting guidelines
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
• Cross-departmental accounting experience or multiple function experience

 

Knowledge and Skills

• Substantial knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and internal controls. Ability to apply them to a range of situations with varying degrees of complexity
• Capability to identify and anticipate problems, independently develop alternative & innovative solutions, and make well-informed decisions within scope of responsibility
• Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy, initiative and reliability
• Ability to communicate effectively and promptly at most levels of the organization
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively on teams and promote a team approach. Executes assigned actions
• Leadership skills required to lead teams and/or projects.
• Ability to meet strict deadlines, which requires flexibility and willingness to work overtime as needed, especially during monthly closings and annual planning cycles
• Proficiency of Microsoft Office applications
• Willingness to travel up to 10% or as projects dictate
