Performs semiskilled work facilitating the management, preparation, cleaning, and supervision for daily operations of programs, events, and facilities utilized by Chatham County Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources, including, but not limited to, the Chatham Grove Community Center, parks, and schools. Work is performed under the direction of the Community Center Supervisor, Athletics Supervisor, or Program Supervisor, depending upon assignment.
This is a temporary position and is not eligible for benefits. Work hours vary according to scheduled programs, activities, and events.
- Oversees the operation of assigned facility, contractors, volunteers, and patrons and acts as the point of contact in the absence of full-time staff;
- Performs regular maintenance, custodial, opening and closing duties of assigned facilities;
- Performs set-up and breakdown for scheduled programs or events at facilities, including gymnasiums, athletic fields, and other programming spaces;
- Leads, directs, or assists in the supervision and direction of various programs, events, and athletics programs for youth and adults;
- Provides positive customer service to participants and members of the public through various communication methods and resolves and responds to problems in a proactive and professional manner;
- Assists in promoting Chatham County Parks and Recreation programs and events;
- Maintains equipment and supplies;
- Maintains records, creates schedules, and reports as directed;
- Enforces Chatham County Parks and Recreation rules and policies;
- Distributes information, supplies, equipment, and evaluations to patrons for various programs;
- Provides feedback regarding programs and facility operations;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- General knowledge of Chatham County Parks and Recreation parks, facilities, and programs offered throughout the county;
- General knowledge of Chatham County Parks and Recreation policies and procedures, building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment, and ability to use them economically and efficiently;
- Knowledge of, or ability to learn to operate, software programs, including but not limited to, RecDesk and Microsoft Office applications.;
- Knowledge of general safety practices and procedures;
- Ability to provide and promote quality customer service, including responding to common inquiries and dealing with the public in a sound and professional manner;
- Ability to understand oral and written directions, including the ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, room diagrams, and procedure manuals;
- Ability to perform moderate manual work;
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the other Chatham County Parks and Recreation staff, the public, and participants.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; safely and responsibly use park and/or recreation equipment; work regularly requires prolonged standing, walking, use of hands and fingers, handling or feeling, frequently requires speaking or hearing, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, smelling, pushing, pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; work requires vocal communication to express or exchange ideas orally; work requires hearing to perceive information at normal spoken levels; work requires visually inspecting small defects and/or small parts, using measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to the risk of electrical shock, exposure to vibration, wearing a self contained breathing apparatus and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
Special Requirements
**Must be fingerprinted and successfully pass a Criminal History Record Check with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations (NCSBI)**
Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.
Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age.
