The successful candidate will bring deep industry experience, a strong understanding of local healthcare funding mechanisms, established relationships within the Ministry of Health and local laboratory funders, and the ability to develop and execute country‑specific sales strategies. This is a senior leadership role requiring strategic thinking, commercial acumen, and proven people management capability.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial & Strategic Leadership

  • Lead the South East Africa commercial operations (Mozambique, Malawi, Angola, Zambia), ensuring alignment with regional and global strategic priorities.
  • Define and implement long‑term strategic plans, sales strategies, and tactical execution models to achieve revenue, profitability, and market share objectives.
  • Hold full P&L responsibility, including revenue forecasting, performance tracking, and delivery against targets.
  • Prepare, present, and manage annual business plans, including regular updates and performance reviews.
  • Drive new business development, improve win‑rates, increase share of wallet, and expand value with existing customers.
  • Propose and manage financial and human resource allocation to maximize productivity and business outcomes.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.

Sales Excellence & Operational Management

  • Lead and manage a team of Sales Executives and Ambassadors, ensuring execution of sales plans and operational excellence.
  • Oversee contract negotiations, particularly around pricing, profitability, and long‑term agreements, supporting field teams where required.
  • Monitor and control regional budgets and expenditure, ensuring financial discipline.
  • Drive adoption and effective use of salesforce management systems, KPIs, incentive plans, and performance dashboards.
  • Act as a trusted advisor and senior point of contact for key customers, ensuring contract adherence and service excellence.
  • Manage customer escalations end‑to‑end, ensuring timely resolution and high customer satisfaction.
  • Develop strong distributor partnerships, based on shared goals, accountability, and performance.

Government, Funders & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with Ministry of Health officials, government bodies, regulatory agencies, and key advisors.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of local healthcare funding mechanisms, donor structures, laboratory funding models, and procurement processes.
  • Engage effectively with local and international funders supporting laboratory services and diagnostics programs.
  • Develop credibility and presence within the national healthcare ecosystem to position the organization as a strategic partner.

Customer & KOL Focus

  • Establish and execute structured Key Opinion Leader (KOL) engagement plans, in close collaboration with Marketing.
  • Maintain regular engagement with top KOLs and C‑suite stakeholders.
  • Implement tracking mechanisms to monitor and measure the effectiveness of KOL engagement.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of market drivers, pricing dynamics, reimbursement challenges, and competitive landscape.
  • Continuously analyze market data and translate insights into actionable strategies.

People Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead, motivate, and inspire high‑performing teams through coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Identify and develop high‑potential (HIPO) talent, implementing structured development and succession plans.
  • Build leadership capability within the organization to support both current and future growth.
  • Drive rewards, recognition, and engagement initiatives aligned with company culture and values.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and results‑driven team environment.

Required Knowledge & Experience

  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in a similar senior commercial or country leadership role.
  • At least 3–4 years’ proven people management experience.
  • Strong commercial and operational background within Healthcare, preferably IVD, Diagnostics, Molecular, or related markets.
  • Demonstrated understanding of public healthcare systems, funding mechanisms, and laboratory ecosystems in Mozambique.
  • Experience engaging Ministry of Health, government stakeholders, funders, and regulatory bodies is essential.
  • Proven track record in sales strategy development, execution, and revenue growth.
  • Strong leadership, negotiation, financial analysis, and communication skills.
  • Ability to influence and operate effectively within a matrix and virtual team environment.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Medical Technology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.
  • Understanding of the Molecular Diagnostics sales process is highly advantageous.
  • Strong business planning, project management, and analytical skills.
  • High level of accountability, agility, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
