Description
Production Scheduler
Let’s talk about the team
The Supply Chain team is responsible for ensuring the effective flow of materials, products, and information across the business. The function supports operational activities including supply and production planning, inventory management, warehousing and distribution, import and export coordination, transportation planning, and the identification and resolution of delivery or supply constraints.
Within Supply Chain, the Supply Planning team works closely with Demand Planning, Procurement, Manufacturing, Warehouse, Quality, Global Supply Alliance, and New Product Introduction teams to ensure production plans are achievable, efficient, and aligned with customer and business priorities.
Let’s talk about the role
As a Production Scheduler, you will be responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating manufacturing activities to support the efficient execution of production plans.
You will develop and maintain production schedules and work orders based on demand, material availability, manufacturing capacity, and operational priorities. You will monitor production performance against plan and partner with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve material shortages, capacity constraints, scheduling conflicts, and other operational bottlenecks.
Through effective use of ERP and planning systems, you will help improve schedule stability, optimize inventory, support on-time delivery, and ensure production plans remain aligned with changing business requirements.
Let’s talk about responsibilities
- Create, release, and maintain production work orders within the ERP system.
- Develop and manage daily and weekly production schedules based on customer demand, material availability, available capacity, and manufacturing priorities.
- Validate production schedules against material, labor, machine, and resource availability.
- Monitor production progress and schedule adherence, adjusting plans when priorities, demand, materials, or operational conditions change.
- Identify material shortages, capacity constraints, production bottlenecks, and scheduling risks, and work with relevant teams to develop appropriate recovery plans.
- Collaborate closely with Supply Planning, Procurement, Manufacturing, Warehouse, Quality, Demand Planning, and other stakeholders to support production execution.
- Review machine and workforce capacity and assess the impact of operational changes, including overtime or additional production requirements.
- Optimize the sequencing of work orders and SKUs to reduce unnecessary changeovers and improve manufacturing efficiency. These capacity and sequencing expectations were specifically discussed during the role intake.
- Analyze delayed or at-risk production orders and support corrective actions to restore the production plan.
- Maintain accurate planning parameters, production data, work-order information, and relevant master data within ERP and planning systems.
- Communicate schedule changes, production risks, constraints, priorities, and recovery actions clearly to key stakeholders.
- Support the Supply Review process by highlighting current and anticipated supply constraints and contributing to mitigation plans.
- Monitor short-term and long-term capacity requirements and escalate potential constraints when necessary.
- Support inventory optimization by balancing production requirements, material availability, customer demand, and inventory targets.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance schedule stability, planning accuracy, operational efficiency, and on-time delivery.
Let’s talk about qualifications and experience
Required
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, Business, or a related discipline.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in production scheduling, production planning, supply planning, manufacturing operations, or a related area.
- Practical understanding of manufacturing processes, production execution, material planning, inventory management, and capacity planning.
- Hands-on experience using an ERP system to create and manage production work orders, inventory transactions, and scheduling activities.
- Experience developing and maintaining daily or weekly production plans within a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to evaluate material, machine, labor, and capacity availability when preparing production schedules.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify production risks and develop practical recovery actions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP or XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, and data analysis.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple functions.
- A proactive, organized, and detail-oriented approach, with the ability to manage changing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred
- Experience using Oracle E-Business Suite, particularly for production work orders, planning, and inventory management.
- Experience with SAP or another comparable manufacturing ERP and planning system may also be considered. The hiring manager confirmed during the intake that Oracle EBS is used internally, while relevant SAP experience is transferable.
- Experience monitoring production schedule adherence and supporting recovery plans for delayed or constrained orders.
- Understanding of SKU sequencing, manufacturing changeovers, machine capacity, workforce capacity, and overtime planning.
- Exposure to Supply Review, Sales and Operations Planning, or similar cross-functional planning processes.
- Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives within a manufacturing or supply-chain environment.
- Flexibility to support critical production requirements, including occasional after-hours or weekend activities when operationally required.
