The opportunity
The Manager, Financial & Subsidiary Reporting is responsible for financial statement preparation and reporting for subsidiary entities in various jurisdictions, including managing the external auditor and other stakeholder relationships (as applicable). The role also supports the preparation, analysis, and review of Ontario Teachers’ mid-year and year-end financial statements and engaging in operational improvement projects and initiatives related to financial reporting.
Who you'll work with
The Manager, Subsidiary Financial Reporting works closely with corporate accounting, tax, legal and operations teams, as well as colleagues across global offices and external auditors in multiple jurisdictions, to deliver statutory reporting and ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements.
What you'll do
Financial Reporting
- Lead annual statutory reporting process for international office subsidiaries, including financial statement preparation, audit coordination, regulatory filings, and stakeholder management with external auditors, legal counsel, tax advisors and corporate service providers.
- Support various reporting matters through coordination with other divisions, as required
- Prepare the presentation of the financial statements to the board of directors of the foreign administration subsidiaries, where required.
- Design, implement and maintain controls over financial reporting and subsidiary reporting processes.
- Support the preparation, analysis, and review of OTPP’s mid-year and year-end financial statements and notes. Prepare and/or review accurate supporting information and schedules in a format that is transparent for internal review and external audit.
- Perform analysis and analytical review to respond to review comments and understand key variances and year-over-year changes in reported information.
- Assess reporting risks and control deficiencies and coordinate remediation plans where necessary.
- Support internal and external audit reviews and monitor resolution of audit observations.
- Drive audit readiness and reporting quality across subsidiary reporting processes.
- Drive consistency, efficiency and risk management across subsidiary reporting and compliance processes.
Accounting Research & Disclosure
- Conduct independent research on new and revised accounting guidance under applicable foreign GAAP and IFRS and lead the assessment and implementation of any changes.
- Determine and recommend appropriate accounting treatment for complex transactions, and/or non-routine events, including preparation of technical accounting position papers and accounting memos, as required.
- Determine potential improvements to disclosures in the financial statements and annual reports.
- Assist in responding to inquiries and requests from Tax, Legal and other groups in Finance for accounting guidance, as required.
- Support other financial reporting requests as required (peer benchmarking, surveys, ad-hoc inquiries from users of financial data, etc.).
- Make recommendations and lead the implementation of operational improvement projects and initiatives related to financial reporting.
- Coordinate internal and external audits as they arise.
- Develop and maintain reporting templates, disclosure checklists, review frameworks and standard operating procedures to improve consistency across subsidiaries.
- Drive process standardization and automation opportunities across global reporting activities.
What you'll need
- Relevant university degree (e.g., business degree with accounting focus)
- CPA designation required
- CFA designation is an asset
- Strong understanding of Canadian GAAP (IFRS and ASPE) applicable to investment companies
- Awareness of (and ability to research) other relevant accounting frameworks (e.g., US, UK, Singapore and/or India)
- Awareness of financial reporting best practices for pension plans and/or financial institutions
- Demonstrate aptitude for emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, by identifying and implementing opportunities to improve processes, enhance reporting capabilities and support finance transformation initiatives.
- Understanding of Canadian pension plan dynamics and relevant regulatory obligations
- Proficiency in data & analytics
- Minimum 7 years of progressive financial reporting experience
- Strong attention to detail with ability to prioritize where applicable and maintain a high work standard.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with various stakeholders regarding audit, financial and accounting matters
- Meaningful project management and organizational experience, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, stakeholders and deadlines simultaneously.

What we’re offering
Pay-for-performance with base salary and annual incentive based on individual and enterprise performance. The Base Salary range for this level is as follows: $105,000 - $155,000.
