We are searching for a full-time Senior Tax Accountant. This role will be based at our office in Naperville, IL.

Lauterbach & Amen is committed to offering compensation that is fair, transparent, and competitive. The anticipated, average salary range for this position is $60,000-$100,000, with the final offer determined based on business-related factors such as geographic location, relevant experience, education, skill set, and professional certifications. As part of our compensation philosophy, offers are typically not made at the top of the range to allow room for future growth and salary progression over time
Essential job duties:
- Manage client relationships and communicate tax matters clearly and confidently.
- Prepare and review individual, corporate, partnership, and not-for-profit tax returns, including related schedules, calculations, and workpapers.
- Prepare and review estimated tax payments and extensions.
- Research and analyze federal, state, and local tax issues and translate conclusions into actionable client guidance.
- Assist clients with IRS and taxing-authority notices, correspondence, and issue resolution.
- Strengthening client relationships and identifying opportunities to expand services.
- Participate in networking, referral development, and other business-development activities.
- Support growth in target industries and client segments aligned with your experience and interests.
- Assist clients with bookkeeping, accounting, and financial reporting to support tax planning and business objectives.
- Identify opportunities for bookkeeping, client accounting, and advisory services and collaborate with the firm’s specialists to deliver practical solutions.
- Partner with tax, audit, client accounting and advisory teams to provide coordinated client services.
- Stay current on tax legislation and share relevant developments with clients and colleagues.
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
- Two to Seven years of relevant public accounting or tax experience
- Active CPA is required
- Comfort working directly with clients, leading conversations, and developing professional relationships.
- Strong verbal & written communication abilities with various levels of management & clients
- Desire to work in a team environment
- UltraTax is preferred but not required
- Highly motivated, self-starter, and strong attention to detail
- A proactive, outward-facing mindset and genuine interest in helping cultivate new business.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a seasonal environment.
- Experience with not-for-profit, professional services, real estate, closely held businesses, or IRS matters is valuable but not required.
- Experience with QuickBooks, general bookkeeping, financial statement preparation, or client accounting and advisory services is a strong plus.
- Interest in understanding a client’s full financial picture, including the accounting records and business activities underlying its tax filings.
- Ability to travel locally and work additional hours during peak tax periods.
