Role Overview
Our client is a leading provider of electronic security solutions, delivering customized technologies and integrated solutions to organizations across various sectors.
The Security & Life Safety Systems Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, documenting, and supporting the implementation of integrated security and life safety system solutions. The role involves translating client and project requirements into practical and compliant engineering designs, preparing technical drawings and Bills of Quantities (BOQs), conducting site surveys, and collaborating with project teams, consultants, contractors, and clients to ensure successful project delivery.
The successful candidate should have strong technical design capabilities, excellent attention to detail, and practical knowledge of security and life safety systems, CAD software, and applicable industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Security & Life Safety Systems Design
• Design technical solutions for security and life safety systems, including but not limited to:
o CCTV / Video Surveillance Systems
o Access Control Systems
o Public Address & Voice Alarm (PAVA) Systems
o Entrance Control Systems
o IP PBAX / IP-PBX Systems
o Intercom Systems
o Other integrated security and life safety solutions as required.
• Analyse project requirements, architectural layouts, specifications, and client needs to develop appropriate system designs.
• Prepare system architectures, equipment layouts, schematics, block diagrams, and detailed design documentation.
• Ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, scalable, and aligned with project requirements.
2. CAD & Technical Drawings
• Prepare accurate 2D and 3D drawings using AutoCAD, Revit, and other relevant design software.
• Develop detailed working drawings for project implementation.
• Prepare layouts for equipment, devices, containment, cabling, pathways, and system infrastructure.
• Produce As-Built Drawings based on site installations and approved project changes.
• Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, coordination, and compliance with project requirements.
• Maintain proper document control and revision management for design drawings.
3. Site Surveys & Technical Assessments
• Conduct site surveys to assess existing infrastructure, site conditions, and client requirements.
• Take accurate site measurements and prepare sketches, mark-ups, and survey reports.
• Identify design constraints, installation challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
• Translate site survey findings into practical design solutions and project documentation.
• Liaise with site teams to verify actual installation conditions and resolve design-related issues.
4. Bill of Quantities & Technical Documentation
• Develop and prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQs) based on approved system designs.
• Identify required equipment, materials, accessories, cabling, containment, and installation requirements.
• Ensure BOQs accurately reflect the approved design and project scope.
• Support preparation of technical specifications, equipment schedules, material schedules, and other project documentation.
• Assist in reviewing supplier and subcontractor quotations where required.
5. Project Coordination & Stakeholder Management
• Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, Consultants, Contractors, Sales Teams, and Clients to understand project requirements, objectives, and constraints.
• Attend project meetings with clients and other stakeholders as required.
• Participate in design coordination meetings and provide technical input on security and life safety systems.
• Coordinate designs with architectural, electrical, mechanical, ICT, and other engineering disciplines.
• Respond to technical queries and provide design clarifications during project execution.
• Support project teams in resolving design and technical issues.
6. Project Communication & Documentation
• Prepare and maintain Minutes of Meetings (MoMs) for relevant project and design meetings.
• Track design-related actions, decisions, changes, and outstanding issues.
• Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Maintain accurate project records, drawings, revisions, and technical documentation.
• Ensure timely submission of design deliverables in accordance with project schedules.
7. Design Improvement & Innovation
• Identify opportunities to improve design processes, quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
• Provide strategic and practical solutions to overcome design and project challenges.
• Research and recommend appropriate technologies and solutions based on project requirements.
• Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, products, and design practices.
• Incorporate relevant technological developments and best practices into project deliverables.
8. Standards, Quality & Compliance
• Ensure all designs comply with applicable engineering codes, standards, regulations, client specifications, and project requirements.
• Follow established design standards, guidelines, templates, and quality procedures.
• Conduct design reviews and quality checks before submission or issue for construction.
• Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail across all design deliverables.
• Support continuous improvement of design standards, processes, and documentation.
Required Skills & Competencies
• Proficiency in AutoCAD is required.
• Proficiency in Revit and/or other CAD/BIM design software is highly desirable.
• Good understanding of technical drawings, layouts, schematics, and design documentation.
• Ability to interpret architectural, structural, electrical, and engineering drawings.
• Understanding of security and life safety systems and their design principles.
• Ability to conduct site surveys and translate site conditions into technical designs.
• Ability to develop accurate BOQs and equipment/material schedules.
Qualifications and Experience
• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or related technical field, including:
o Electrical Engineering
o Mechanical Engineering
o Civil Engineering
o Urban Planning
o Other relevant engineering/design disciplines.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in security systems, life safety systems, engineering design, CAD design, or a similar field.
• Relevant experience in the design and documentation of security and/or life safety systems will be an added advantage.
