Description
The Senior Director, APAC Sourcing is responsible for leading Hillenbrand's sourcing activities across the Asia-Pacific region, with primary responsibility for supplier identification, supplier development, localization, cost competitiveness, and supply base performance. This role will lead a regional sourcing team that partners closely with global category leaders, business units, engineering, operations, quality, and supply chain teams to support enterprise sourcing objectives.
The role is accountable for identifying and developing world-class suppliers that support both regional business requirements and global sourcing strategies. This leader will drive supplier capability development, localization initiatives, cost productivity, quality improvements, delivery performance, and supply chain resilience across the APAC supply base. Success in the role requires strong supplier management, sourcing expertise, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to build strategic supplier relationships that create sustainable value for the enterprise.
Key Responsibilities
Regional Sourcing Leadership
- Lead all APAC sourcing activities in support of regional and global business objectives.
- Develop and execute sourcing strategies that improve cost competitiveness, quality, delivery performance, and supply continuity.
- Partner with business units to identify and execute value creation opportunities throughout the supply base.
- Serve as the primary liaison between APAC suppliers and global category leadership.
Supplier Identification & Localization
- Identify, assess, and qualify world-class suppliers capable of supporting current and future business requirements.
- Lead supplier scouting and market intelligence activities across APAC.
- Drive localization initiatives that improve supply chain responsiveness, reduce costs, mitigate risk, and support regional growth objectives.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and quality teams to support new supplier qualification and product localization efforts.
- Develop sourcing pipelines to support business growth, capacity expansion, and strategic initiatives.
Supplier Development & Performance
- Establish supplier development strategies that improve supplier capabilities and operational performance.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost, quality, delivery, capacity, innovation, and responsiveness.
- Lead supplier performance management through scorecards, business reviews, corrective actions, and development plans.
- Support suppliers in implementing best practices that improve manufacturing capability, quality systems, and overall operational performance.
- Escalate and resolve supplier performance issues that impact business operations.
Value Creation & Cost Competitiveness
- Deliver measurable value creation through sourcing, negotiation, supplier development, localization, and productivity initiatives.
- Partner with global category leaders to support enterprise sourcing strategies and cost reduction objectives.
- Lead commercial negotiations and supplier discussions related to pricing, productivity, capacity, quality improvements, and contractual agreements.
- Identify opportunities to optimize total cost of ownership while maintaining quality and service requirements.
- Support annual planning processes through market intelligence, supplier insights, and cost trend analysis.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Procurement, and business unit leadership.
- Support supplier selection and sourcing decisions for new product introductions and strategic business initiatives.
- Ensure supplier capabilities align with business requirements, technical specifications, and growth plans.
- Promote alignment between regional sourcing activities and enterprise procurement strategies.
Organizational Leadership
- Lead, develop, and mentor a team of sourcing professionals across the APAC region.
- Establish clear objectives, priorities, and performance expectations.
- Build organizational capabilities in supplier development, sourcing, negotiations, market intelligence, and supplier relationship management.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and results-driven execution.
Travel
- Ability to travel throughout Asia-Pacific and globally up to 30% of the time.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- MBA, Master's degree, or relevant professional certification preferred.
Preferred Experience & Competencies
- Extensive procurement, strategic sourcing, supplier development, supply chain, or manufacturing experience within a global industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Experience leading sourcing organizations and teams across Asia-Pacific.
- Demonstrated success identifying, qualifying, and developing strategic suppliers.
- Strong knowledge of APAC supply markets, manufacturing capabilities, cost structures, and sourcing practices.
- Experience supporting localization initiatives and global sourcing programs.
- Proven track record of delivering productivity improvements, cost reductions, and supplier performance improvements.
- Strong supplier relationship management and negotiation capabilities.
- Experience working closely with engineering, operations, quality, and supply chain functions.
- Ability to assess supplier capabilities, manufacturing processes, quality systems, and operational performance.
- Strong analytical, commercial, and strategic thinking skills.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively across cultures, regions, and global organizations.
