Business Administration | Procurement internship: tail supplier management

Introduction

The Strategic Sourcing & Procurement department at ASML works closely with suppliers to support reliable delivery and business operations worldwide. Within this department, the Indirect Procurement team is responsible for sourcing products and services that support the organization. One of the team's challenges is managing a large number of low-spend suppliers, often referred to as tail suppliers. During this internship, you will investigate how ASML can optimize its supplier base and reduce complexity while maintaining business value and continuity. This is a unique opportunity to gain experience in procurement, supplier management, and business process improvement within a global high-tech environment.

Your assignment

The objective of this internship is to support Indirect Procurement in optimizing the supplier base by focusing on tail supplier management. You will investigate what defines a tail supplier, analyze ASML's current supplier landscape, and benchmark market practices. Based on your findings, you will develop recommendations on how ASML can reduce supplier complexity while maintaining operational effectiveness. Your main responsibilities will be:

• Analyze the current supplier landscape and identify tail supplier patterns.
• Define a practical and data-driven approach to tail supplier management.
• Perform spend and supplier segmentation analyses.
• Research and benchmark industry best practices and available market solutions.
• Identify opportunities to reduce supplier fragmentation and duplication.
• Present recommendations, findings, and a roadmap with measurable improvement opportunities.

This is a bachelor/master non-thesis internship for minimum 5 months, minimum 3 days per week (approximately 50% on-site, with flexibility in how this is divided throughout the week). The start date of this internship is as of February 2027.
 

Your profile

To be suitable for the internship, you:

• Are enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree in Business Administration, Procurement, or a related field.
• Have an affinity for procurement, supplier management, and process optimization.
• Have experience with data analysis and spreadsheet-based reporting.
• Are analytical, structured, and proactive when working with complex information.
• Communicate clearly and effectively in English with different stakeholders.

Other requirements you need to meet:

• You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship, and you are at least 18 years old at the start of the internship;
• If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement);
• You attach your cover letter with a clear motivation on why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular;
• You need to be located in the Netherlands to be perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your application shows the willingness to relocate.
