Director Medical Affairs I&I (m/f/d)
Global Job Level: J100 / Director
Reports to: Senior Director Medical Affairs Specialty
Application information: Please apply with motivation letter and CV
About the Role
Lead the medical strategy and execution for Pfizer’s Immunology & Inflammation portfolio (Dermatology, Rheumatology, Gastroenterology) in Germany, ensuring scientific excellence, evidence generation, stakeholder engagement, and launch readiness while improving outcomes for patients with immune-mediated diseases. This visible leadership role combines deep immunology expertise, strategic thinking, organizational transformation, people leadership, and external influence to strengthen Pfizer’s scientific leadership position in Germany — reflected in high-quality evidence, non-interventional study execution, launch readiness across the pipeline, effective collaboration with GSSO and the International Medical organization, and speedy recruitment.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Vision
Define the multi-year Medical Affairs strategy for Pfizer’s Immunology & Inflammation portfolio in Germany, aligned with the Strategic Roadmap 2030, country medical priorities, and the global strategy, building a focused Medical organization while maintaining clear medical independence and compliance boundaries.
Establish Pfizer’s Immunology & Inflammation Medical Affairs as the trusted scientific voice in the therapeutic area, shaping a clear medical impact narrative.
Drive scientific differentiation through evidence generation, medical storytelling, and stakeholder engagement.
Translate global medical priorities into impactful local execution.
Generate actionable insights to inform medical and cross-functional decision-making.
Ecosystem Leadership
Build trusted partnerships across the clinical recruitment ecosystem, including HCPs, KOLs, patient organizations, professional societies, payers, policy makers, public-health institutions, digital-health stakeholders, and academic networks.
Shape the Immunology & Inflammation portfolio landscape in Germany through engagement with relevant healthcare decision-makers, using systematic insight generation to translate healthcare-system needs and patient-journey gaps into actionable medical priorities.
Scientific Leadership, Evidence Generation & Clinical Studies
Own the Medical Plan and integrated evidence strategy, leading generation, interpretation, and communication of scientific evidence — real-world evidence, epidemiology, investigator-sponsored research, medical education, and publications — where applicable and compliant.
Collaborate with the International Medical organization, global medical, clinical development, HEOR, access, and regulatory colleagues to ensure local insights inform broader planning and are aligned across markets.
Closely collaborate with GSSO on clinical study execution in Germany, including Country Outreach, study-site identification, and recruitment based on local scientific and healthcare-system insights.
Utilize advanced analytics and AI-enabled insight synthesis to accelerate scientific impact, improve diagnosis rates and patient outcomes, and support healthcare-system decision-making.
Lead and oversee non-interventional studies and real-world evidence initiatives (registries) in Germany, including study design input, feasibility, site engagement, recruitment acceleration, protocol-related operational alignment, data interpretation, and publication planning.
Translate clinical trial, real-world, and observational study data into compelling scientific narratives for external engagement, internal decision-making, access-relevant discussions, congress activities, abstracts, manuscripts, and medical education.
Market Access (Medical/Scientific Support)
Provide medical/scientific support on market access strategies and benefit dossiers, owning the medical evidence and scientific-narrative input, anticipating added-benefit evidence gaps and supporting data generation to close them, in partnership with Access & Value.
Launch & Pipeline Excellence
Lead Medical launch readiness across the significant innovative pipeline and key indication extensions, ensuring Medical Affairs and Field Medical scientific readiness across the product lifecycle.
Drive differentiation through evidence generation, medical storytelling, and scientific engagement.
Leadership & Talent
Build, develop, and inspire a high-performing Medical team across Medical Affairs and Field Medical (MAS), fostering a culture of accountability, inclusion, innovation, and collaboration.
Attract, retain, and grow top scientific talent through succession planning and development, dedicating a substantial share of leadership time to coaching, feedback, and clear prioritization.
Drive alignment within the Medical Leadership Team to share capabilities and drive joint success across therapeutic areas.
AI, Innovation & Medical Transformation
Champion responsible, compliant use of AI — with human oversight of AI-generated outputs — and build AI fluency and sound scientific judgment across the team.
Simplify ways of working and eliminate low-value activities to maximize time for scientific exchange and patient impact.
Compliance & Scientific Integrity
Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and Pfizer policy requirements — upholding the non-promotional boundary, scientific integrity, pharmacovigilance, medical governance, and balanced scientific communication.
