Position Overview

Lead the Facilities and Maintenance strategy for ArthroCare Costa Rica, ensuring the reliability, availability, and optimal performance of assets, infrastructure, and critical building systems. Responsible for ensuring the effective execution of preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance while complying with quality, hygiene, validation, and FDA and ISO regulatory requirements.

Drive the area’s strategic priorities through continuous improvement, operational excellence, and the adoption of automation, digitalization, and artificial intelligence technologies to optimize operational efficiency and sustainability. In addition, promote a high-performance and service-oriented culture, strengthening collaboration with internal customers and support areas to ensure results aligned with business objectives.

What will you be doing?

  • Develop, implement, and oversee the comprehensive preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategy for production equipment, Facilities, infrastructure, and critical systems, promoting a proactive culture focused on operational reliability and minimizing downtime.

  • Lead and manage the resources of the Facilities and Maintenance department by establishing priorities, supervising performance, promoting talent development, and ensuring achievement of productivity, quality, schedule, and resource utilization objectives.

  • Ensure the availability and optimal performance of equipment and facilities through timely response to operational needs, proper management of spare parts and critical materials, and effective execution of maintenance plans during scheduled shutdowns.

  • Coordinate the installation, transfer, startup, and maintenance of production equipment, working closely with Production, Quality, and Engineering teams to ensure compliance with operational and regulatory requirements.

  • Manage plant infrastructure, including HVAC, electrical systems, compressed air, and other critical utilities, ensuring compliance with corporate, regulatory, and safety standards.

  • Ensure compliance with Quality Management System requirements, including calibrations, out-of-tolerance event investigations, corrective and preventive actions, and support for internal, external, and regulatory audits.

  • Lead the financial management of the area through planning, control, and monitoring of operating and capital budgets, including training, acquisition, replacement, and administration of equipment, tools, accessories, and assets.

  • Strategically manage relationships with suppliers, contractors, and external consultants, including procurement processes, contracting of specialized services, and administration of maintenance contracts.

  • Coordinate and promote technical training programs to ensure the proper operation, maintenance, and use of equipment, systems, and facilities.

  • Identify continuous improvement, cost optimization, and operational efficiency opportunities through asset performance analysis, implementation of improvement projects, corporate OPEX initiatives, and the use of new technologies, automation, and artificial intelligence-based solutions.

  • Ensure the implementation of and compliance with Safety, Occupational Health, and Environmental programs, promoting a safe and high-performance work culture.

  • Develop strategic partnerships with internal customers and support areas to ensure exceptional service levels and an appropriate contribution to the organization’s strategic objectives.

What will you need to be successful?

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or university degree in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, Civil Engineering, or related disciplines.

  • Proficiency in English, with the ability to communicate effectively in professional environments, both verbally and in writing.

Required Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 5 to 8 years of experience leading Maintenance and Facilities areas in highly regulated industrial environments.

  • Proven experience in leading multidisciplinary teams, talent development, and performance management.

  • Solid experience managing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance operations, as well as infrastructure and critical services management.

  • Experience in budget management, resource planning, contractor management, and execution of continuous improvement projects.

  • Knowledge of and experience working in the medical device industry or regulated manufacturing, including controlled environments and regulatory compliance requirements.
