Purpose
The Psychology Department is seeking a creative, organized, and detail-oriented Work-Study Student Associate to support the Senior Communications and Marketing Manager with departmental communications, marketing, social media, and outreach initiatives.
The student will assist with content development, social media coordination, website updates, event promotion, photography and other communications projects. This position provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in higher education communications and marketing while developing skills in digital content, social media, branding, and professional communication.
Responsibilities
Communications & Content Support
Assist with developing content for newsletters, websites, social media, email communications, and other departmental communication channels.
Draft and edit event announcements, promotional copy, and audience-focused communications.
Research and compile information for departmental stories, announcements, faculty achievements, and special features.
Support the creation and organization of digital assets, including photos, graphics, and marketing materials.
Event Coordination & Outreach
Assist with planning and execution of departmental events, lectures, workshops, conferences, receptions, and special programs.
Coordinate event logistics, including room setup, signage placement, registration materials, audiovisual support, and attendee check-in.
Set up, monitor, and break down catering services, tables, displays, and event materials before and after events.
Support event promotion through email campaigns, social media, digital signage, flyers, and other communication channels.
Assist with maintaining event calendars, RSVP tracking, and post-event documentation.
Website, Social Media & Digital Content
Review website content for accuracy and identify outdated information, broken links, or needed updates.
Assist with creating and updating website content, including event pages, announcements, faculty news, and departmental resources.
Develop basic digital graphics and social media content to support departmental initiatives and events.
Administrative Support
Provide general administrative support related to communications and event activities.
Assist with data entry, file organization, and maintenance of departmental records and contact lists.
Complete additional communications, outreach, and event-related projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Current UT Austin student eligible for Federal Work-Study.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to organize multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
Basic computer proficiency.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Professional judgment and willingness to ask questions when clarification is needed.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience managing or creating content for LinkedIn.
Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design tools.
Experience with website content management systems.
Coursework or interest in communications, marketing, journalism, psychology, business, public relations, or a related field.
Salary Range
$16/hr

12-15 hours per week based on availability
Must be able to work a consistent schedule Monday through Friday
