Job Description Summary

GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH) is a premier global nuclear technology provider driving the transition to a cleaner energy future. Through our innovative BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology, we are helping shape the next generation of nuclear power.

As the Lead Quality Specialist – Civil/Structural, you will play a frontline, high-impact role supporting the historical BWRX-300 deployment at the Darlington New Nuclear Project. Operating directly at the project site, you will anchor civil and structural quality oversight during a critical, high-visibility phase of nuclear construction, ensuring absolute compliance with rigorous safety, regulatory, and engineering standards.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Site Quality Leadership: Lead comprehensive quality control and inspection activities for civil and structural site work, with a strong focus on structural concrete pours and structural steel erection for major nuclear buildings (e.g., Reactor and Control Buildings).
  • Inspection & Test Execution: Execute Mandatory Witness and Hold Point inspections strictly in accordance with approved Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and project quality requirements.
  • Engineering Compliance & Guidance: Partner closely with project teams, contractors, and partners to define verification standards and provide technical guidance on adherence to engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Non-Conformance & Change Management: Act decisively to resolve civil/structural quality concerns, reviewing and dispositioning field change requests and field non-conformance reports (NCRs).
  • Technical Documentation: Author, review, and refine quality-related technical documents, inspection plans, test procedures, and reporting logs.
  • Continuous Improvement: Champion corrective action, root cause analysis, and human-performance error-prevention processes to uphold a bulletproof nuclear safety and quality culture.

Required Qualifications

Education & Professional Experience:

Option A: Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline from an accredited university—plus a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in civil/structural quality assurance or inspection on heavy industrial, infrastructure, or large-scale construction projects (Nuclear experience is a strong asset, but not mandatory).

OR

Option B: Technical diploma or certification—plus a minimum of 5 years of heavy industrial/infrastructure QA/inspection experience, including at least 1 year of dedicated Nuclear quality experience.

Core Technical Experience: Demonstrated hands-on expertise (minimum 2+ years) specifically tied to structural concrete, structural steel, or heavy civil construction QA/inspection processes.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be willing to work onsite at the GVH site engineering office, Darlington New Nuclear Project site, Oshawa — 5 days/week.
  • GE Vernova will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in Canada for this opening.

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience in nuclear, hydro, LNG, or other large-scale heavy infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with CSA N286, CSA N285, or similar quality/regulatory codes (training provided if not already held).
  • P.Eng or CET designation preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; comfortable working with multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Demonstrated self-starter with strong initiative and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to learn nuclear-specific quality requirements through structured onboarding/mentorship.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving construction environment.
