Position Description

The McGill University Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time Contract Academic Staff position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Clinical) based at the Jewish General Hospital (JGH). The professorial rank will be determined according to the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience. This will be a three-year, renewable appointment and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

The OBGYN Department at the Jewish General Hospital comprises specialists and subspecialists who provide the full complement of Obstetrical, Gynecologic and Oncologic services to the population. Our department is made up of 6 general OBGYN’s, 7 MFMs, 4 MIS and 5 Gyn Oncologist subspecialists. The JGH is the busiest Obstetrical centre on the island of Montreal, and our group ensures 24/7 in-house coverage of our high-volume labour and delivery unit, doing approximately 3600 deliveries per year. We collaborate with and support our Family Medicine Obstetrical Team and Midwifery team. We are a Tertiary level Centre offering specialized MFM care for complex pregnancy related conditions, and we receive many high-risk transfers from across the province annually. Our division of MIS ensures care of several thousand patients with complex gynecological cases and performs over 1000 surgical procedures per year using multiple approaches. Our Gyne-Oncology division provides state-of-the-art care to thousands of patients with gynecological malignancies and performed almost 300 robotic surgical cases last year.   

Job Duties

The successful candidate will be a member of the Department of OBGYN at the Jewish General Hospital. They are expected to perform clinical duties and attend the majority of department meetings and rounds, as well as provide excellent clinical teaching and supervision to undergraduate medical students, OBGYN residents, Family medicine residents and Fellows. The successful candidate is expected to take a normal allotment of Obstetrical call and bring an average volume of obstetrical patients to the institution, approximately 150 or more per year. The successful candidate is expected to take some MIS call as well.

The incumbent will also be expected to be actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill’s academic mission (e.g., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Candidates must:

• Hold an MD degree (or equivalent), and be eligible for, licensure in the province of Quebec;

• Have completed a minimum 1-year fellowship specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynecology and be eligible for competency-based certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent);
• Hold a Master’s degree or other postgraduate training (preferred, not required);
• Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills at the level needed to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families, and health care professionals.
