Position Title: Staff Specialist - Clinical Pharmacology & Toxicology
Employment Type: Temporary part-time for 3 months commencing ASAP
Hours per week: 0.4 FTE
Position Grade: Staff Specialist
Salary: As per the award

Position Requirements:

  • Provision of clinical services to patients designated as under your direct care, to outpatients and to patients you are asked to consult, including;

  • assessment and management of patients who are admitted under the care of the clinical pharmacology and toxicology (CPT) unit including the PANDA (Prescription Medicines and Drugs of Addiction) 6 bed medical ward service/department and other patients admitted under the CTP service elsewhere;

  • specialist consultation and referral; and

  • specialist consultation-liaison to patients who are admitted under other services/departments;

  • Referral and liaison with key treatment providers (including GP’s) and active participation in a multidisciplinary setting;

  • Supervision and teaching of junior medical staff and trainees and medical students;

  • Contribute to and undertake relevant research;

  • Participation in out-of-hours services;

  • Contribute to the management and function of the department(s) Including the PANDA and CPOT units and the Hospital in promoting and providing safe, best practice and cost-efficient clinical service;

  • Provision of expert clinical advice to relevant committees and services.

ST VINCENT’S HEALTH AUSTRALIA: IDENTITY

Applicants for this position should have completed or will have completed advanced training in Thoracic Medicine with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and either, completed or currently enrolled in a higher degree research PhD program. The duties and responsibilities of the position will include completion of lung transplant focused research either utilising the lung transplant biobank or performing basic science experiments including animal models and Ex-ViVo Lung Perfusion. It will also include clinical assessment and management of post lung transplant patients and review of lung transplant patients enrolled in clinical trials. 
Applicants will be expected to work within the framework of the philosophy and policies of the Hospital to provide and maintain a high quality of individual patient care. They will provide an educational environment for junior medical, nursing and allied health staff assigned to the Department, also to supervise and complete accurate and comprehensive medical records.

Selection Criteria:

  • Possess, or be eligible to possess, registration with the Medical Board of Australia.

  • Possess Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent

  • Demonstrated knowledge and interest in current contemporary clinical practice in clinical pharmacology/ toxicology with relevant experience appropriate to the requirements of the position.

  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills and effective team working with proven ability to improve the quality of services and patient care outcomes

  • Demonstrated ability to provide high quality compassionate medical care as evidenced by recent practice experience in working congenially and collaboratively as both a leader and member of a multidisciplinary team, and as a provider of services that engender high levels of patient satisfaction and experience;

  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching at specialty registrar, junior medical officer and undergraduate levels;

  • Demonstrated ongoing contribution to the development, dissemination, and translation of new knowledge and practices commensurate with work in an academic teaching hospital environment;

  • Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries
