Role summary:
The Senior Technician, Facility Services, HVAC/Refrigeration, leads the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of HVAC/R systems across commercial and industrial facilities. This role oversees diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and compliance with safety and environmental standards while managing refrigeration units and related equipment. The position involves coordinating field teams, mentoring technicians, and supporting critical service needs through on-call rotations. Additionally, the Senior Technician ensures efficient parts management, vendor coordination, and process improvements to optimize system performance and reliability in alignment with organizational goals.

The HVAC/Refrigeration team ensures Walmart’s facilities operate efficiently through effective project management and strict safety compliance. This team plans and executes maintenance projects, manages budgets, and adheres to OSHA standards. Members collaborate to address facility needs including landscaping, snow removal, and equipment upkeep, focusing on quality and operational efficiency. By applying best practices and fostering strong partnerships across departments, the team delivers reliable, safe, and cost-effective HVAC/Refrigeration solutions that support Walmart’s commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvement.
What you'll do:

• Oversee installation, commissioning, and maintenance of HVAC/R systems, including ductwork, control panels, and refrigeration units.
• Lead diagnostics and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant issues in commercial and industrial environments.
• Implement and monitor preventive maintenance programs to optimize equipment performance and reduce downtime.
• Manage refrigerant handling, ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and HVAC/R codes.
• Coordinate and mentor field teams, providing hands-on training and evaluating technician skills.
• Maintain parts inventory, vendor relationships, and service schedules to meet operational priorities.
• Participate in on-call rotation to support critical business needs outside regular hours.

What you'll bring:

• Proven experience in installation, commissioning, and maintenance of HVAC/R systems, including refrigeration units and building pneumatics.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant systems in commercial and industrial settings.
• Knowledge of OSHA standards, EPA refrigerant handling protocols, and compliance with federal, state, and local HVAC/R codes.
• Ability to lead and mentor field teams, providing hands-on training and evaluating technician performance.
• Proficiency in managing parts inventory, vendor relationships, and coordinating service calls to meet business priorities.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills to support cross-functional teams and continuous process improvement.

The hourly wage range for this position is $35.00 - $70.00* *The actual hourly rate will equal or exceed the required minimum wage applicable to the job location. Additional compensation in the form of premiums may be paid in amounts ranging from $0.35 per hour to $3.00 per hour in specific circumstances. Premiums may be based on schedule, facility, season, or specific work performed. Multiple premiums may apply if applicable criteria are met.

Minimum Qualifications...

Outlined below are the required minimum qualifications for this position. If none are listed, there are no minimum qualifications.

Option 1: 3 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration.
Option 2: 6 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration and Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
Hold and maintain Type I and Type II or Universal Environmental Protection Agency certification for refrigerant handling.
Where required, HVAC-R/ Mechanical Journeyman.
1 year’s experience in plumbing, electrical, material handling equipment, or related area or 2 years’ Walmart store experience.
Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle report.
Commercial driving record with no convictions for DUI, DWI, OUI within the last five (5) years.
Commercial driving record with no more than two (2) moving violations in the last three (3) years.
No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
No serious traffic violations, as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.

Completion of a 2-year technical/vocational HVAC/R program or 2-year associate’s of applied science A/C and refrigeration., Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and presentation software (for example, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)., Prior work experience reading blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams., Prior work experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment., Prior work experience with Glycol and C02 systems.
