Role summary:The Senior Technician, Facility Services, HVAC/Refrigeration, leads the installation, maintenance, and repair of complex HVAC/R systems across commercial and industrial settings. This role oversees diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and compliance with safety and environmental standards while managing field teams and vendor relationships. The position requires coordinating service priorities, delivering technical training, and supporting critical business operations through timely issue resolution. The Senior Technician drives continuous improvement by evaluating new technologies and refining processes, ensuring optimal system performance and contributing to the overall operational excellence of facility services.
About the team:
The Facility Services HVAC/Refrigeration team ensures the reliable operation of Walmart and Sam’s Club commercial refrigeration and HVAC systems. This team handles preventative and reactive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs across various equipment, including refrigerated cases, walk-in coolers, and rooftop HVAC units. Members collaborate to maintain compliance with safety and environmental standards while supporting multiple store formats. The team emphasizes technical expertise, effective communication, and continuous improvement to keep facilities running efficiently and protect products. They also provide training and mentorship to enhance skills and support business priorities.
What you'll do:
- Oversee installation, commissioning, and maintenance of HVAC/R systems, including ductwork, control panels, and refrigeration units.
- Lead diagnostics and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant issues across commercial and industrial equipment.
- Implement and monitor preventive maintenance programs to optimize equipment performance and reduce downtime.
- Manage refrigerant handling, ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and HVAC/R codes.
- Coordinate and mentor field teams, providing hands-on training and evaluating skill development.
- Track parts inventory, manage vendor relationships, and ensure timely service delivery.
- Participate in on-call rotation to support critical business needs outside regular hours.
What you'll bring:
- Extensive experience in installation, commissioning, and maintenance of HVAC/R systems, including refrigeration units and control panels.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant systems in commercial and industrial settings.
- Proven ability to lead and mentor field teams, providing hands-on training and performance feedback.
- Knowledge of OSHA standards, EPA refrigerant handling protocols, and compliance with federal, state, and local HVAC/R codes.
- Effective coordination of service calls, parts inventory management, and vendor relationships to meet operational priorities.
- Ability to manage on-call responsibilities and respond promptly to critical service needs.
- Skilled in documenting work orders with detailed notes and photographic evidence.

The hourly wage range for this position is $35.00 - $70.00* *The actual hourly rate will equal or exceed the required minimum wage applicable to the job location. Additional compensation in the form of premiums may be paid in amounts ranging from $0.35 per hour to $3.00 per hour in specific circumstances. Premiums may be based on schedule, facility, season, or specific work performed. Multiple premiums may apply if applicable criteria are met.

Minimum Qualifications...
Outlined below are the required minimum qualifications for this position. If none are listed, there are no minimum qualifications.
Option 1: 3 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration.Option 2: 6 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration and Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
Hold and maintain Type I and Type II or Universal Environmental Protection Agency certification for refrigerant handling.
Where required, HVAC-R/ Mechanical Journeyman.
1 year’s experience in plumbing, electrical, material handling equipment, or related area or 2 years’ Walmart store experience.
Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle report.
Commercial driving record with no convictions for DUI, DWI, OUI within the last five (5) years.
Commercial driving record with no more than two (2) moving violations in the last three (3) years.
No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
No serious traffic violations, as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
